We love a decent app, here at Know Your Mobile, but so often we get caught up with the regular drama of iOS and Android app launches and end up distracted from some of the great offerings which are available on other platforms. With that in mind, we’ve set about throwing together a list of our current favourite BlackBerry OS 10 titles, for your perusal.

Twitter is omnipresent, which makes having a good app critical. Thankfully, the developers of Neatly have taken the matter in-hand and put together this fantastic app, which offers users plenty of scope for making use of the world’s favourite micro-blogging site. Yes, it costs actual money, but don’t be put off, the developer consistently updates the app and it’s well worth the small fee.

While we’re on the subject of social networking and communication, What’s App is one title you’re going to want on your BlackBerry. The popular cross-platform messaging app is indispensable, giving you the opportunity to stay in touch with all of your friends or colleagues, no matter what mobile OS they call home, and all for the cost of $0.99 a year (your first 12 months are free though!).

Skype isn’t quite the finished, polished article quite yet, but the preview which is currently floating around BB App World is sufficient to give us a taste of what the final product will offer when it goes gold. The whole world uses Skype for messaging, voice and video chats over their device’s ‘net connection, and this is simply a must-have.
TuneIn Radio for BlackBerry 10

TuneIn Radio offers users the opportunity to stream radio stations from around the globe over their device’s WiFi or cellular data connection. It’s easy to use, and the choice, which amounts to around 70,000 stations, is superb, so everyone should be able to find something to please.
Photo Studio PRO for BlackBerry 10

Photo Studio PRO for BB 10 is a great image editing app which is able to offer many of the most used processing functions on the hoof, such as brightness, hue, contrast and saturation controls, frames, filters and ‘magic tools’ for fixing red-eye and sharpness. Put simply, if you’re an habitual snapper then this is the app for you.

Instagram comes to BB 10 via this handy, well designed little app. You can do all of the usual bits and pieces, like viewing top-rated photos, follow and unfollow users, comment and like, and the best part is that it’s all taken care of quickly and easily. It’s another app which costs good money, but as the old saying goes ‘you get what you pay for’.

We like to keep tabs on what Mother Nature’s up to on our mobile devices, and obviously, seeing as it’s 2013, we can’t use a window to do it, so on our ‘Berries we use this little app. It’s fast, uses GPS to give you the latest info for your local area, and also alerts you to severe incoming conditions, so you’ll have plenty of time to panic-buy bread and milk!
Evernote is a fantastic note taking app which is available on virtually every platform and this, the BB 10 incarnation, is as good as we’ve come to expect. It allows you to take notes and then shares them in the Cloud, so they’re available across all of your hardware, and you aren’t limited to text, you can snap images and take voice memos too.

If you use your BlackBerry for business, or you simply take your personal security seriously, then AppsLock should be on your shortlist. The app allows you to lock all of your installed apps (or simply the ones you deem necessary) and also gives you the opportunity to secure your SD card, calendar or whatever else you feel should be fenced off from the nefarious world we call home.
Angry Birds Star Wars for BlackBerry 10

There just couldn’t be a maiden apps-list without Angry Birds, could there? This version, which takes inspiration from the Holy Trilogy, runs well on new hardware and is simply one of the most addictive mobile gaming titles we’ve ever been exposed to. It’s glib, it’s silly – it’s immeasurably fun.
Dropbox for BlackBerry 10

This app does exactly what it says: it connects your Dropbox account to your BlackBerry 10. It’s simple to use, easy to setup, and is the perfect solution to all your cloud woes until Dropbox pulls its finger out and releases an official one.
N.O.V.A 3 for BlackBerry 10

Gameloft’s well-known and critically acclaimed shoot-em-up, originally launched on Android and iOS, is now available for BlackBerry 10. It’s called N.O.V.A. 3, and it’s epic as hell featuring guns, monsters, adventures, and plots to assassinate world leaders. The graphics and gameplay are pretty sweet too.

World of Goo has to be seen to be believed, being part puzzle part action game. The premise maybe simple: get as many little globules of Goo across a course and up a pipe. But the game is as perplexing as any puzzler we’ve come across. Originally debuted on iOS and now on BlackBerry, World of Goo is a definite must have.
