Sony photography, hands-on with PlayStation® VR and Android Pay

It’s that time of the week where we give you the hottest news from Android and Sony. And what better way to start things off by diving into the wonderful world of photography. Just this week, the National Awards winners for the 2016 Sony World Photography awards were revealed. The winners come from across 60 countries, and their images will be showcased at Somerset House, London 24 April – 10 May.  leaf

An expert panel of judges led by the World Photography Organisation got together to make their final decision, choosing Scott Portelli from Australia, Olympe Tits from Belgium and Longxian Xie from China, amongst many others, as the winners. Stunning shots of wildlife, portraits and classic architectural images to recognisable scenes of daily life were just some of the photographs captured by the winners. Not only do the winners get their work displayed at the exhibition, but they also receive the latest digital imaging equipment from Sony so they can continue their photographic journeys. Over half of the winners will be flown to London to attend the Sony World Photography Awards gala ceremony to see their work. Congratulations everyone, we can’t wait to see your work on show!

Staying on the topic of photography, it was just announced that Sony will showcase its brand new wireless lighting control system prototype at The Photography Show 2016. Created to meet the ever-growing demands of professional photographers, the device has loads of exciting features worth looking into.

Designed for compatibility with α interchangeable cameras and external flash units, the new lighting system will include the FA-WRC1M wireless radio commander as well as the FA-WRR1 wireless radio receiver. Exciting stuff!

The system will be available for you to get your hands on in Europe, Summer 2016 so remember to keep your eyes peeled.

xp-3You may remember earlier in the year Instagrammer extraordinaire, PeppyHere visited London’s Lumiere festival, snapping away with her Xperia Z5. The results were pretty stunning! We decided a catch up was long overdue, so got in touch to see what she’s been up to since and if she was still enjoying using her Z5 for photography. We can safely say that PeppyHere is a huge Sony Mobile fan and recently took this gorgeous photo in Paris. You can see the full interview over on our blog.

Last Friday we shared our friends at PlayStation’s news around the release of PlayStation VR. One of the big questions is what will the content look like on the new device? The team decided to put nine VR titles to the test, including Rez Infinite, SuperHyperCube and Thumper. The full review can be read on the PlayStation site, and we’d love to hear your thoughts!

Finally, there was big news in the Android world this week, as it was announced that Android Pay is set to arrive very shortly. Android Pay means customers will be able to tap and pay using their Android devices – simple! So far there are 460,000 payment terminals in UK shops with even more locations being added. The technology is designed to be extra secure and also lets users track their last 10 transactions, making it easier than ever before to monitor purchases.

That’s all we have time for right now. We hope you have a great weekend and a wonderful Easter holiday. We’ll be back week to bring you the latest Sony news.
