HTC’s profits take 91 per cent hit year-on-year

HTC’s Q4 profits are by 91 per cent year-on-year, illustrating just how bad things have got for the once great Taiwanese manufacturer

HTC has posted profits of just £20,919,214 for Q4 2012, a reported 91 per cent drop year-on-year – or, the company’s lowest quarterly income since 2004.

HTC CEO Peter Chou has been on the offensive of late, talking about the company’s failings, and signaling out marketing, or the lack of it, as likely to blame for the company’s current woes.

Speaking to the WSJ, Chou said: ‘our competitors were too strong and very resourceful, pouring in lots of money into marketing. We haven’t done enough on the marketing front.’

HTC used to be the UK’s number one Android manufacturer. Now it’s in third place behind Samsung and Sony. Although Chou claims 2013 will be a better year for the company.

HTC’s next handset, the M7, is expected to launch at Mobile World Congress 2013. It features a 1080p display, 2GB of RAM, and Qualcomm’s S4 Pro processor. Having said that we've heard plenty of talk about the company unveiling it at CES 2013 sometime this week, also.
