Nokia has officially said the 808 PureView was the last Symbian phone
Nokia’s Q4 earnings report reveals the company’s Symbian operating system officially died with the 808 PureView.
With Nokia having previously declared that it was winding Symbian down and shifting focus onto Microsoft’s Windows Phone it then launched the 808 PureView with its amazing 41-megapixel camera.
But, it never officially said it was the last Symbian device even though many suspected this to be the case.
Now though, Nokia has officially stated the 808 PureView was its last Symbian phone:‘During our transition to Windows Phone through 2012, we continued to ship devices based on Symbian.'
'The Nokia 808 PureView, a device which showcases our imaging capabilities and which came to market in mid-2012, was the last Symbian device from Nokia.’
Since PureView debuted in the 808 it’s appeared, albeit in a more limited capacity, inside Nokia’s flagship Windows Phone 8 handset, the Lumia 920.
The Lumia 920, however, had a lower-rated 8.7-megapixel camera with optical stabilisation through a floating lens.
Nokia representatives have since explained the discrepancy by saying that the PureView name is simply applied to any device which uses the company’s top-of-the-line imaging hardware.
However, PureView as it existed on the 808 will live on as the company is said to be working on the aluminium-bodied Lumia EOS, which will allegedly sport a 38-megapixel setup similar to that found in the Symbian-based handset.
