Samsung will reportedly launch the Galaxy S4 in March, with the phone landing in April. It may be called the Altius and will have wireless charging
Samsung’s Galaxy S4 will be announced at an event in March and arrive in stores and with networks by April 15, according to a new report.
Sammobile cites its ‘insider sources’ as revealing that the next Galaxy S flagship (ie: the Galaxy S4) has been known internally as ‘Project J’ and is now referred to as ‘Altius’ or ‘Altius J’.
The phone will reportedly come in black or white and shipping is said to start from ‘week 16’, which is pegged as April 15.
‘We expect Samsung to hold an unpacked event at MWC or sometime in March,’ reports the site.
Given previous reports MWC seems unlikely, so March it is then.
The expose also claims the Galaxy S4 will ‘100% confirmed’ have wireless charging functionality and a 2,600mAh battery pack.
Not entirely surprising given that Google’s Nexus 4 and Nokia’s Lumia 920 both have wireless charge capability, it seems logical it will become a flagship standard across the board.
Allegedly Samsung will sell a wireless charging dock a few weeks after the Galaxy S4 arrives in shops.
Although no reasoning is given, the article speculates that the presence of wireless charging indicates a removable back cover for the handset. Given that the Galaxy S3 had one this isn’t unlikely, but other phones with wireless charging have had unibody construction, so it could go either way.
The report suggests Samsung may not name the next Galaxy S flagship as the S4 because the number four is apparently bad luck in Korea.
