Nokia Windows tablet appears on-screen at company event

Further evidence has emerged which suggests Nokia might be working on a Lumia Windows tablet

Rumours of Nokia’s Windows tablet now have much more solidity as one such device has appeared on a screen display at a Nokia event in Pakistan.

The event in question was the Pakistan Lumia 620 launch and Nokia-focused tech news site Nokia Gadgets caught a snap of the presentation slide.

The photo is fairly blurry, but we can clearly see it is surrounded by phone handsets and the Windows Live Tile icons. According to the report it sports a ‘thin bezel, with colourful casing and rounded sides’.

Of course, it’s possible this is simply a misinterpretation.

The tablet and the accompanying phone and desktop all-in-one within the same slide all follow a similar Microsoft marketing format we’ve seen associated with the Windows ecosystem before: non-descript, black silhouettes of generic Windows powered devices. The emphasis is on the colourful UI.

We don’t know where that claim if a ‘colourful casing’ came from because we certainly can’t see one and can only conclude this is an educated guess based on habits within the larger Lumia brand.

Feasibly, the slide could have been used simply to illustrate the cross-platform connectivity between different devices based on Windows.

Earlier in the year, reports emerged that Nokia was working on a Windows RT tablet, the same sources also suggested another Lumia PureView phone and a further mid-range Lumia model.

Later, in an interview, Nokia CEO Stephen Elop spoke quite candidly about how the company was considering the development of a tablet device. While he couldn’t be cornered on more solid statements, Elop did explain that although Windows RT or Windows 8 would be a first choice he added: ‘we would consider any option.’

A Lumia Windowstablet would likely sit well with existing Nokia Lumia smartphone users as the cross-usability would be pretty extensive.
