We run through a selection of the best alternatives to Nokia's Lumia 620, including the HTC Desire X, ZTE Blade 3 and HTC 8S
Nokia’s Lumia 620 is a very capable handset considering the low price point. It has full blown Windows Phone 8 and is the most affordable phone running this platform.
The internal hardware is also pretty punchy while the exterior design looks neat, but is also versatile as you can switch out coloured back covers. Check out our full review of the Lumia 620 here.
But, it might not be to everyone’s liking and there are some alternatives. We’ve put together a list of some of the best.
HTC Desire X
The HTC Desire X meets the Lumia 620 on price and offers an equally enjoyable experience on Android instead of Windows Phone.
It’s a thinner and generally more svelte handset with a slightly larger Super LCD display at the same resolution as the Lumia’s. Colour is richer and brightness has a bit more pop while the 233ppi pixel density ensures things are very clear too.
Android 4.0 is very snappy on the 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core chip and you have a much wider choice of apps than on Windows Phone.
ZTE Blade 3
The ZTE Blade 3 is a much more conservative-looking device than Nokia’s Lumia 620 and it’s also considerably cheaper at a mere £69.
Despite the difference in price, the Blade 3 is surprisingly sturdy in its build quality and the matte finish back panel is great for a budget handset.
The display is also well worth a look, it’s slightly larger at 4-inches but has the same resolution as the Lumia. At 233ppi it’s quite sharp but the colour and brightness are particularly impressive.
The virtually stock Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich build means you get quite snappy navigation performance and a wealth of apps to choose from via Google Play.
HTC 8S
HTC’s 8S is a little more expensive than the Lumia 620 but it has a fantastic exterior design which is really rewarding to handle and comes in a range of two-tone colour schemes.
The Super LCD display is also excellent being brilliantly clear together with vibrant colours and delivering bright visuals with plenty of pop.
Nokia Lumia 820
Nokia’s Lumia 820 is the mid-range model and is similarly priced to the HTC 8S.
It has the same 8GB of internal storage as the Lumia 620 and different coloured interchangeable back panels, some of which allow you to charge the phone wirelessly.
The display is larger but sports the same resolution and delivers a slightly lower pixel resolution, though it still uses Nokia ClearBlack.
The camera is also a bit better as it’s rated at 8-megapixels, while the processor is 500MHz faster and boasts double the RAM.
Nokia Lumia 920
The Nokia Lumia 920 is a premium level phone with a much higher price point but the result is higher quality device in terms of specs.
It’s a larger and bulkier device, but the pay-off is a far superior display and camera setup.
It features an 8.7-megapixel PureView camera with optical image stabilisation, which is sure to please any photography enthusiasts.
However, general performance when using Windows Phone 8 should be broadly comparable with the Lumia 620.
