iOS 6.1.3 still causing battery drain

Apple's recently rolled out iOS 6.1.3 update is still causing problems for many users

Apple’s iOS 6 update hasn’t been the most successful software rollout in its history. Users were incandescent over the company’s decision to drop Google Maps over its own flawed offering and their rage didn’t abate when it became clear that the update, and subsequent rejuvenations thereafter, were limiting the battery life of their devices.

The company’s most recent update, iOS 6.1.3, was pushed out to fix the well-publicised lock-screen security risk, but instead it appears to have exacerbated the Microsoft Exchange bug which was at fault for the widely reported battery drain issues – and which was supposed to be fixed in version 6.1.2!

According to the guys over at GottaBeMobile, the iOS 6.1.3-powered devices still contact Exchange servers constantly, leading to the device’s battery depleting ahead of time. The issue where emails were being deleted from the server without the user's permission, however, has been dealt with.

iOS 6.1.3 is also believed to have detrimentally affected some users Wi-Fi signal strength and some iPhone 4 handsets are reportedly still affected by the aforementioned lock-screen bypass – the very thing that caused the update to be rolled out in the first place!

Perhaps Tim Cook ought to enlighten his gifted software team with the age-old carpenter’s mantra: measure twice, cut once.

Have you been affected by any bugs in the recent update to 6.1.3? Let us know below. Meanwhile we're off to sit on a rocking chair and ruefully remember Steve Jobs and his beloved yet tyrannical perfectionism.
