Samsung’s next Galaxy Note smartphone, the Galaxy Note 3, will arrive at IFA 2013, reports claim.
According to SamMobile’s ‘insider’, the handset will be launched at the show, possibly alongside the Galaxy Tab 3, rumoured to be a 10.1-inch tablet.
While it’s reassuring to hear the news from an alleged inside source at Samsung, it’s not the boldest claim to have make considering the Galaxy Note 2 launched at IFA 2012. The annual event takes place in Berlin in September.
The stylus-equipped Galaxy Note 3 is expected to follow in its predecessors footsteps in sharing many features with the current Galaxy flagship, the Galaxy S4. It’s believed the visual design will be very similar and the Note 3 should use the same processor hardware.
Until recently, this was thought to be the Samsung Exynos 5 Octa eight-core chip, but Samsung has now revealed the Galaxy S4 will ship for the UK market with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600.
This could mean the Galaxy Note 3 also uses the Qualcomm 600 chip, which is still a very powerful processor – on the Galaxy S4 it’s clocked to 1.9GHz but Galaxy Note devices have historically been clocked at a few hundred MHz faster than their Galaxy S counterparts, meaning we could see a 2GHz Galaxy Note 3.
Previously the Galaxy Note 3 was rumoured to have a 6.3-inch display, but other sources have since indicated a 5.9-inch panel instead. Recently, however, Samsung launched its Game Pad accessory for Galaxy series phones and this can accommodate displays as large as 6.3-inches, implying it may have been made with the Note 3 in mind and that 6.3-inches is the actual screen size.
Other expected features include 2GB of RAM, an Adreno 320 GPU, a 13-megapixel camera with many of the Galaxy S4’s features such as dual-capture mode, Android 4.2.2 (or possibly Android 5.0) with the TouchWiz UI and further Galaxy Note features such as multiscreen.
