Some thoroughly convincing pictures of what appears to be the Samsung Galaxy S4 have emerged online ahead of the phone’s official launch on March 14.
The snaps leaked on a Chinese forum and show a massive device with Samsung’s branding on front and back. It has a shiny plastic shell which looks like Samsung’s ‘HyperGlaze’ finish seen on the Galaxy S3.
The display is virtually bezel-less and would appear to be the 4.99-inch 1080p screen which has been rumoured for some time.
A codename is given as GT-I9502 pegging this as a dual-SIM model for the Chinese market, but of course you can expect the global version to look the same.
Much of the design language is markedly similar to the Galaxy S3, complete with a solid home button, although everything has obviously been enlarged. There’s also some kind of mesh texture on both front and back and this model has a silvery back panel with a black fascia.
In terms of spec, we can see from the ‘About phone’ menu it does indeed have a 1920x1080 pixel Full HD resolution, Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean and a 1.8GHz processor.
It’s listed as using a quad-core chip but as the Exynos 5 Octa is technically doubling up quad-cores this actually sits fine with the rumours. A PowerVR SGX 544MP graphics processing unit is listed too, while an apparent Antutu benchmark pegs it with a rating of 26118. Impressive stuff.
Assuming this is the real deal this is something of a surprise. We were expecting a more angular handset in-line with previously leaked images and the rumours of a total re-branding, but Samsung has kept very close to the Galaxy S3 all round.
Other rumoured details include a 13-megapixel camera and various new tweaks to the TouchWiz UI, which will include Smart Scroll and Smart Pause eye tracking technology.
