Pictures and a video have leaked showing a new Motorola smartphone which looks very different from anything else the company has made and has more than a passing resemblance to Google’s Nexus 4.
The leak comes via Tinhte, which states the device is not the fabled ‘X Phone’. The main reason for this conclusion is that the spec shows this is definitely not flagship material and could be one of the devices Google’s CFO Patrick Pichette described as lacking the ‘wow’ factor the Android giant is after.
But, that said, it does show Motorola moving in a positive direction under Google’s influence. Pretty much everything is new here, there’s no Kevlar back and the whole device is much smoother and more rounded than the company’s Razr line. The bezel is nice and thin and it looks like we might have an edge-to-edge display configuration, while the screen specs are fairly average – it’s a 4.65-inch 720p display with a 320 pixel-per-inch (ppi) pixel density.
The phone uses a unibody design as the curved back panel cannot be removed, while inside the spec is actually looking quite capable as we know there’s a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor with an Adreno 320 GPU and 2GB of RAM. The battery is a 2,200mAh pack.
The model number is reported as XT912A and we can see ‘Motorola Confidential Property’ labelled on the front. The Motorla logo to the top left of the display looks a bit different while on the rear panel it’s been recessed into the centre to mirror the nearby camera port and flash.
The phone could be a prototype but cold also see a release at some point in the near future. Perhaps we’ll hear more at Google I/O?
This is really impressive stuff in terms of design and we hope Motorola continues along the same route for the X Phone and other releases.
