Pictures of what would appear to be iPad parts and which allegedly belong to the iPad 5 have been spotted online.
The picture emerged via French site Nowhereelse.fr, which reported the picture came from one of their ‘moles Chinese’.
The gloved hand does offer an air of authenticity considering every shot we’ve ever seen from the inside of a Foxconn-style Apple factory has had its workers similarly clad, but, given the simplicity of the picture it could just as easily have been staged with a sheet of glass, a camera and a cardboard cut-out.
The image is purported to show the iPad 5’s front panel, complete with a narrower bezel on the longer edges, a feature long-rumoured as being carried across from the iPad Mini design.
So, our salt shakers remain poised, though we’re reluctant to dump their contents onto the kitchen table just at the moment.
The thing is, there are rumours going around saying the iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2 could launch within the next couple of months, ahead of a possible Summer launch of the iPhone 5S or iPhone 6. If that were the case, then production would already be well underway and provide an adequate opportunity for such a leak from Nowehereelse’s ‘moles’.
The alternative, as is also currently rumoured, is that we won’t see the iPad 5 or the successor to its diminutive counterpart until much later in the year, sometime around the Autumn and likely around the same time the first iPad Mini and the iPad 4 launched in 2012.
To be totally honest, we kind of hope this is a fake. We rather liked the idea of the iPad 5 emulating the iPad Mini’s shape but from the looks of things this is still closer to the iPad 4 – the edges have narrowed a bit, but just a little bit. It could be more streamlined.
