Several reports have already pointed to the idea that Apple’s next iPhone, whether it’s called the iPhone 5S or the iPhone 6, will come in multiple colour options as well as the traditional black and white, but a new claim from an analyst says this will be a main selling point of the device.
According to Japanese Apple news site Macotakara, Apple is aiming to market its colour options for the iPhone 5S in a similar fashion to how the company has pushed colour variants for the iPod Touch music players.
The report cites anonymous sources for the tip, which claims there will be five colour variants including black and white.
The tipster didn’t reveal the other colours but we could see a mirroring of the iPod line which includes black, white, pink, yellow and blue. This is something which concept artists have already imagined through rendered images in recent months.
The rumour also goes that the colour options will be a focus because, true to the iPhone 4S, the iPhone 5S will only be an incremental update on the iPhone 5 in terms of hardware and the rest of the design.
The report doesn’t say that the colour variations will be the main or only focus of the handset, however, and it’s possible that a substantial software and feature upgrade is in store. In fairness, the iPhone 4S was a bit of a leap if you take Siri into account.
Multiple current rumours say Apple’s next software version, iOS 7, will land on the next iPhone and will be a big overhaul. The company’s design guru Jony Ive is said to have been placed at the helm of the re-design project.
There are also murmurings that CEO Tim Cook has been in talks with his counterpart at Beats Audio, meetings which it’s said could be leading towards a music streaming service collaboration.
Recently, we saw a fantastic concept video from an Apple fan showing what iOS 7 could be like if Apple implements a big batch of useful new features.
