Apple’s iPhone 5S will feature potentially revolutionary mobile payment capabilities according to a report from an analyst who spoke directly to Apple executives.
Morgan Stanley’s Katy Huberty penned a note to investors in which she described her meeting with Apple managers. She said they had revealed a ‘killer iOS app’ for mobile payments. Huberty compared the scale of the new feature with that of Apple’s Siri launch on the iPhone 4S.
It was also revealed that some kind of internet service will be released by the iPhone maker, which could possibly relate to reports from earlier in the year that Tim Cook had met with Beats Audio’s CEO over a possible music streaming service.
Mobile payments have already been a subject of speculation for the iPhone 5S as multiple reports claim Apple will implement a fingerprint scanner into the handset. Job postings from Apple which may be related to its acquisition of AuthenTec, a biometric security specialist, in 2012 has been cited as support for the theory.
Other current rumours surrounding the iPhone 5S suggest it’ll arrive in the Summer, around June or July. It’s said to be an incremental update over the iPhone 5 just as the iPhone 4S was on the iPhone 4. Leaks and analyst predictions claim it’ll come in a selection of colours, similar to Apple’s iPod music player range and could feature the A6X dual-core processor chip so far only seen inside the iPad 4.
A camera upgrade is said to be on the cards, possibly up to 13-megapixels, and the big change is allegedly going to be on the features, services and software front. Reports say Apple has placed its chief device designer, Jony Ive, in charge of redesigning iOS’s interface for the next release, as it hasn’t changed visually for a long time.
