iOS 7 beta 2 released with iPad support

Apple releases iOS 7 beta 2 to developers two weeks after WWDC

The dust has barely settled from Apple’s WWDC conference at which it unveiled the re-designed iOS 7 and already the company is now pushing out the second-phase beta for the software.

Crucially, this time it supports iPad devices, where previously the stage one beta only supported iPhones. The beta 2 build is available over-the-air on iOS devices but only to developers who’ve paid-up with Apple at this point. It is also available through the iOS Developer Centre, according to 9to5Mac, though of course you need to be a registered developer to get hold of it.

Aside from tablet support, the iOS 7 beta 2 includes several bugfixes and tweaks and introduces the new male and female voice options for Siri, which Apple revealed at its conference. There’s also the addition of a new Voice Memos app which you can use to record voice clips, edit them and share them via text message, email, iCloud or AirDrop.

While the fact that the new build is available exclusively to developers may be of little comfort to non-devs, the main thing here is the rapid turn-around time from the first build to the second. It looks like Apple is making swift progress on getting iOS 7 finalised, which would suggest to us that the launch of an flagship Apple product to carry it is not far off at all.

Apple CEO Tim Cook previously said that Apple’s next-gen products would launch in the Autumn and we’ve recently seen some fairly compelling leaks of what are alleged to be the iPhone 5S and a budget iPhone Light.
