The Nikkei has divulged that Microsoft intends to port PC and XBOX games from its games division to both iOS and Android devices. The plan looks to start with a free-to-play version of Age of Empires to Android, due before the end of the fiscal year.
This will be the start of more Microsoft Games to hit the mobile platforms in the near future, though what other games would be ported hasn’t been confirmed.
This is an excited prospect for mobile gaming as there are plenty of Microsoft classics that would transfer well to this generation of Android devices (read: Halo). It’s also somewhat of an ironic death-knell for Microsoft’s own mobile platform which doesn’t appear to be receiving the same love as iOS and Android.
