The much-anticipated Ouya Android console has officially gone on sale in the UK today priced at £99.99 from selected retailers.
You can grab an Ouya console from Amazon.co.uk or GAME right now. The product details on Amazon’s page show the package comes with the console itself, an Ouya wireless controller, two AA batteries for said controller, a power adaptor for the console and an HDMI cable to hook it up to your TV.
The Ouya console is Android based, though it doesn’t hook up to Google’s Play store for your gaming content. Instead, Ouya’s creators have fostered a community of enthusiastic developers who create titles especially for the Ouya console and you can get hold of them via a dedicated digital store.
There’s also plenty of technical stuff in place so that existing Android developers can port their titles easily to the Ouya platform and the developer toolkit even ships with the console – Ouya’s creators are encouraging user-created content, so if you fancy trying your hand at making a game this is an option.
An integral part of the Ouya concept is that you can try any game in the store for free before deciding if you want to purchase.
Internal hardware includes a 1.7GHz Nvdia Tegra 3 quad-core chip with 1GB of RAM. There’s 8GB of onboard storage for all your games and it supports both Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity, as well as HDMI out, of course.
