HTC will be starting the rollout of its Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update for the HTC One flagship by the end of September, according to company president of global sales Jason Mackenzie.
Mackenzie took to Twitter to answer questions and revealed HTC’s plans to skip the Android 4.2.2 update for the HTC One and instead focus on getting out a 4.3 Jelly Bean update sooner.
According to a follow-up post HTC is working towards releasing the 4.3 Jelly Bean update in the US and Canada by the end of September. The build has apparently already been worked on extensively as it’s ready and waiting for certification at present.
Sadly this of course does not mean UK users will get the update by the end of the month, although we’d expect that the build would be more-or-less completed by that point and could appear for unlocked handsets in the first few weeks of October.
As usual, the rogue element is for carrier-locked HTC One handsets which will need the networks to push HTC’s update themselves, but being a prominent and popular device it really shouldn’t take too long.
Many of Android 4.3’s changes include support for advanced technologies and tweaks to stock UI features, so we don’t know how much is relevant to HTC’s rollout – will it take advantage of the new camera UI enhancements, Bluetooth Low Energy, Open GL ES 3.0 gaming graphics or 4K video playback support?
Hopefully, but the main thing is all the bugfixes and general performance and stability improvements, so you should generally find your HTC One runs a bit better than it did before.
There’s also the fact that any Android apps developed for version 4.3 and above will be compatible with the handset.
