iPhone 5C showcased in scratch test video

Apple's iPhone 5C has shown up in an online video assailed by coins and keys

Apple’s forthcoming iPhone 5C, the affordable iPhone previously known as the iPhone Light, has appeared online in a video scratch test.

In the video, which emerged via Taiwanese tech site Apple Daily, we’re shown a selection of iPhone 5C handsets in blue, white, green and red, colours which have leaked previously. The red model is shown being measured at 8.98mm thick, 124mm long and 59mm wide, and we also get to see the contrasting white fascia, as mentioned in earlier reports.

The handset is shown alongside previous iPhone models, including the iPhone 4GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S and iPhone 5. We also get a quick peek at the rear panels of an iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S side-by-side showing the difference in camera and LED flash ports.

What appears to be a sky blue iPhone 5C back panel is then placed into a plastic bag, along with a set of keys and a handful of coins – the idea being to simulate having the phone in your pocket along with typical items that cause scratch damage to mobile devices. The panel is also taken out and directly scratched at with a set of keys, but following these tests there’s no discernible damage, suggesting the iPhone 5C’s plastic not only makes the phone cheaper but also quite durable to boot.

It’s not clear whether we’re looking at the genuine article here or a fake mock-up, but giving it the benefit of the doubt for the moment and assuming it’s real, it is the most extensive set of hands-on footage we’ve seen of the iPhone 5C so far.
