The rumoured Sony Xperia Z1 Mini has popped up again, this time in a Japanese catalogue for carrier NTT DoCoMo.
The catalogue, which leaked via Japanese tech blog rbmen, shows the handset with the name Xperia Z1 f and available in a range of colours – black, white, pink and lime.
According to the report, there's also a set of specs outlined, which are similar to what we’ve seen leaked before where the Xperia Z1 Mini shares the full-size Xperia Z1’s 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and 2GB of RAM. The operating system is said to be Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
Also listed is a “Storage capacity of 32GB (microSD support)” but what this refers to precisely is unclear, bearing in mind the Xperia Z1 has 16GB of onboard storage and microSD support for 64GB cards.
This seems like it could be innacurate as Sony is unlikely to either drop the amount of card storage support or put the onboard storage higher than the full-size flagship.
Another key item apparently retained (assuming this is all legit, of course) is the 20-megapixel camera with Sony G Lens. The build and design seems almost identical to the Xperia Z1 albeit on a smaller scale with measurements of 127mmx64.9mmx9.4mm and it still has IP58 water and dust resistance certification.
Naturally being a smaller device, the display here is little different to the existing flagship’s 5-inch full HD 1080p panel, instead it’s equipped with a 4.3-inch 1280x720 pixel display, which is still using Triluminos technology. There’s no word on the X-Reality Engine but we would expect this to also be present.
While it’s interesting to hear the Sony Xperia Z1 f name used here, it’s quite unlikely it will carry that name outside of Japan, but it remains possible that it may also not be called the Xperia Z Mini and Sony could be cooking up a completely different name entirely.
