Android Coffee Table Is On The Way

Another way to advance your living room, a huge Android slate to place your coffee cup

The future is here. Much like every science fiction film ever, Android coffee tables mean a huge touchscreen right in front of your finger tips, but sadly there’s no holograms yet. What you can do though, is play all your favourite Android games on a tabletop computer.

The Platform Multitouch Coffee Table with Android allows you to place your coffee cup and play Angry Birds at the same time. There’s two different sizes of table, one with a 32-inch screen and another with a 46-inch.

Both displays are 1080p HD with up to 60 touch points on each. The specs inside the tables are just as impressive too. There’s a quad-core Intel Core i7 processor clocked at 3.7GHz, then there’s a huge 16GB of RAM and 500GB of hard drive space. You could download pretty much every Android game you wanted to play with that kind of storage.

On top of all that, naturally it’s designed to live through water spillages so you can drench it in coffee to your heart’s content. That kind of behaviour is probably not recommended by manufacturer Ideum though.

You can currently pick up Platform Multitouch Coffee Tables with Windows 8 on board so you can access all of the Windows App store. Android tables will be available later in the year but it’s not clear when. The coffee table itself doesn’t come in cheap at $6950 which equals about £4100 but considering the vast touchscreen that's not as expensive as we'd have guessed.

The only thing we thought of to improve the design would be some kind of hinge so you can lift it upright to watch Google Play Movies, or hook it up to a Bluetooth controller to use as an Android console. Maybe later versions will add this?
