The next generation of games consoles has been sat in living rooms around the world for a couple of months now and the sales figures for January have been released. There’s no exact figures for the amount of units sold but Sony’s PlayStation 4 has doubled Microsoft’s Xbox One sales in America.
The figures come from data tracked by NPD. PlayStation marketing vice president John Koller has written on the official PlayStation blog, "Since we launched on November 15th, we’ve sold every PS4 available in the US.”
PlayStation senior vice president Guy Longworth confirmed to Journalist Geoff Keighley that Sony sold nearly twice the “nearest next gen competitor”. It’s unlikely to be comparing its sales figures to the ever failing Wii U so we can assume he was referring to Microsoft’s Xbox One.
per @LuckyLongworth: PS4 was #1 in sales for next gen consoles in January, nearly doubling the nearest next gen competitor.

Microsoft hasn’t revealed any hardware numbers either but focused on some software figures as it sold 2.7 million games in the US. That’s counting Xbox 360 games sold as well though which has an enormous install base.
January was a big month for both manufacturers as it was the first non-holiday period where both consoles were available for the full month.
Microsoft is about to see the release of the highly-anticipated title Titanfall in March, so sales for the Xbox One are bound to jump up. Meanwhile Sony will expect a spike in sales as it finally releases the PlayStation 4 in its home market of Japan next week.
Neither console shows signs of slowing down just yet.
