Samsung Galaxy S4 Value Edition outed in Bluetooth certification

Samsung is readying a "Value Edition" Galaxy S4 with Android KitKat pre-installed

A previously unheard-of Samsung Galaxy S4 variant is apparently in the works as it’s appeared listed in an official Bluetooth SIG certification document. The handset is listed as the GT-I9515.

According to PhoneArena’s sources, the GT-I9515 will hit the market as the Samsung Galaxy Value Edition and it’ll pack much the same specification as the original Galaxy S4 (that is, the Snapdragon 600 version, not the Snapdragon 800-based revamp). That means a 5-inch 1080p touchscreen and a clockspeed of 1.9GHz for that Qualcomm quad-core chip.

The main difference is that it’ll pack Android 4.4.2 KitKat. It'll also be available in a range of colours, as well as the usual white and black, there’ll be red, pink, purple, blue and...brown (yuck!) - but there's not actually anything new there as we've seen all those shades from Sammy before.

We don’t know if Samsung will include its new faux-leather back cover design, but it seems likely. Also, with the Value name we could be looking at quite a low price point, but it’s unclear what the rest of the specs will be like, which could dictate the price to some extent with things like memory and battery size.

With a Bluetooth SIG in the wild we could be seeing this handset launched at Mobile World Congress following the announcement of the Galaxy S5. It’s already known that Samsung will be pushing more than one device as the Galaxy Gear smartwatch is pegged to appear at the same time as the flagship. If MWC doesn’t see the S4 Value Edition unveiled then it seems probable that it will appear in the next few months.
