HTC is reportedly gearing up for a busy close of 2014 following a relatively successful year with the HTC One M8, with evidence of a planned product roadmap emerging online.
The word comes via Taipei Times, which reports that in the Android space, HTC aims to follow up on its camera-centric HTC One M8 and One Mini 2 with the so-called HTC “Eye”, allegedly a “selfie phone”, indicating it will have a highly capable front-facing camera.
Leaks via eprice.com suggest the phone will arrive in the US during Q4, but no other release info or specs are known. A Japan-specific HTC Butterfly 2 is also in the works, but interestingly there’s thought to be an “international version” which has received Visa verification for NFC contactless payment capabilities. The cited reports indicate that this verification means a launch is imminent and it’s reported to have full 4G LTE capabilities. The previous Japan-only HTC Butterfly had a high-end spec and it’s thought the successor will follow suit, but at the same time it is believed the Butterfly 2 will not be as highly specced as HTC’s current One M8 flagship.
The report goes on to say that Q4 will also see HTC re-entering the Windows Phone market, with Digitimes’ sources claiming the “HTC W8” will arrive first, followed by several models “ranging from high-end to mid-range devices”.
The reports provided no further information on the subject, but rumours have been circulating that HTC may follow rumoured plans from rivals to launch so-called “Prime” variants of the current flagships with Qualcomm’s new generation of high-end processors (Snapdragon 805) and other tweaks such as waterproofing.
