Verizon has quietly added tablets to its EDGE rate plan option for customers seeking to avoid service contracts. Arriving yesterday with the Sony Xperia Z2 tablet, the EDGE program lets buyers spread payments out over 20 months instead of purchasing outright or with a two-year plan. As is the case with smartphones, tablet buyers can benefit from quicker upgrade eligibility, upgrades without fees, and potentially lower bills.
