Vaune Phan’s extreme love for sportbikes and dirt bikes has defined her life in a way that only avid motorcycle enthusiasts can truly understand. For example, the 27-year-old recently took a nearly-month-long trip from Singapore to Tibet on her Suzuki DR200, passing through six countries and traveling thousands of kilometers, to explore the beauty of the area and raise funds and awareness for the Singapore Disability Sports Council.
Planning and getting through an adventure like this was no small feat for Vaune. The intricacies of crossing multiple country borders, navigating winding and unpredictable terrain, handling mechanical problems in unfamiliar locations, and simply being exhausted from spending hours on a motorcycle, were all a part of her time on the road to Tibet. And she experienced most of it on her own, riding by herself until she reached China, where a nearby guide was required for her to continue on.
In a heartbreaking turn of events, Vaune was not able to make it to Everest Base Camp—where she’d hoped to be able to continue on to Nepal—because of earthquake repairs being done on the roads and some other hiccups. But the trip was as memorable for her as you’d expect.
Vaune is a big HTC user, so we outfitted her with some gear to help her capture this incredible journey. Below, we’ve shared a few of the many photos she took while on the road. Head on over to her personal blog if you’d like to see even more photos and read daily recaps of her trip.
