And now, on with the GIFing!
Back in the summer of 2014 we published a post about how HTC One M8 users can create GIFs on their phone. The post is worth reading (you can find it right here), and it made us think now is a great time to share a GIF making tutorial for your new HTC One A9. The process is fairly similar to that of the One M8, but there are a few new places and buttons you need to tap to make your GIF.
Taking your pictures
First, you need to take numerous shots to get enough frames for your GIF. On the One M8 and One M9, the feature that captures all those photos for you is the Continuous Shooting feature, which is found in the camera settings. On the One A9, the Continuous Shooting feature is easier to access: it’s one of the icons on your main camera screen when you’re in regular Camera mode. Once selected, that shooting mode will highlight in blue.
Once you’ve figured out and framed up your GIF idea, press and hold the camera button down to shoot all your frames. The final product will appear as a short movie clip…but that’s not the end!
Let’s get GIFing!
To make your GIF, go into the Gallery and select the clip you just created, indicated by three stacked rectangles in the lower left-hand corner of the video thumbnail in your gallery (like the icon on the main camera screen).
Once your clip is open, tap the screen once and then select the FX Editor on the bottom menu. Once you’re in FX Editor, click the drop-down menu at the top left-hand corner to see your editing options. Select Effects. At the bottom of your screen you will have multiple Effects options, including GIF Creator.
With the GIF Creator option, you can trim your GIF to a length you like and, once you’ve done that, continue editing to add a yo-yo effect, change the speed of the GIF, add filters, and select or de-select certain frames to be included.
Once your GIF is ready, save it by tapping the check mark at the top right-hand corner of the screen. Select which size you want to save and you’re done. Your GIF will be waiting in the Gallery to be shared with the world!
