Last Friday night in downtown New York, British rockers the 1975 (@the1975) crowded into a room filled with several hundred fans and a selection of glossy, pink lights. The occasion was to celebrate the group’s latest album, the breathlessly titled, “I Like It When You Sleep, For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It,” with an in-real-life representation of its neon-drenched cover. “After we wrapped the last tour I started to notice kids making their own pieces of artwork that related to the band,” says lead singer Matty Healy. “They would take existing pictures from our live shows and color them. That was the embryo of the new artwork and use of neon. I have always loved artists that use light and form so it felt like a natural step.”
