Makeup artist Pat McGrath (@patmcgrathreal) wants to redefine what beauty can be. “I seek to question the societal standards of beauty,” she says. “Creating looks for the shows gives me the opportunity to take makeup beyond beauty, reinterpreting the face as an artistic canvas.” Pat creates the beauty for many shows during Paris Fashion Week, including the haunting and otherworldly looks for Riccardo Tisci’s Givenchy (@givenchyofficial) show. “Riccardo always has a strong vision that often challenges convention,” Pat says. “So much of the creative process is spontaneous so we get a week to review the brief — if we’re lucky. That is why I carry around 26 trunks of foundation, crystals, lashes, feathers, beads and just about everything imaginable. Just in case.”
