We’re sure by now Instagrammer @Peppyhere is a familiar name. She’s a photographer who Sony Mobile has worked very closely with over the last couple of months after being set the challenge of capturing both Rise Festival and Lumiere London with her Xperia Z5. We caught up with Peppy to discuss her inspirations, adventures & how she’s been getting on using her Z5 to capture her travels…
Tell us a bit about yourself – who are you and how long have you been a photographer for?
Interestingly I’m actually an accountant by profession; I do that during the day then concentrate on my photography during the evening and over the weekends. I’ve always loved photography ever since I was a teenager, but I never owned a camera that had the capabilities to turn my interest into a hobby. I joined Instagram in 2013 and the rest is history!
You’ve travelled to some pretty exciting places, where has been your favourite place to shoot?
Travelling is the best part of my job, and I’ve been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to visit some amazing places. My favourite so far has to be New York City, as it has some amazing high rises and it’s fun to explore vantage points and photograph them.
What influences you/ what photographers have been your biggest influences?
Photographers on Instagram have been my biggest influencers as I learn a lot from their work. There are so many of them that it would be tough and probably unfair to name only a handful of them.
What’s on your photography bucket list? Is there anything/anywhere that you’ve always wanted to shoot?
My bucket list is way too long and there are so many beautiful places I want to capture. To name a few; I’d love to capture the Taj Mahal at sunrise or a ballet shoot in New York City.
How have you found using Xperia Z5 & what adventures have you taken it on since we last caught up with you?
I’ve been using my Xperia Z5 since Rise Festival in December last year, and haven’t put it down since. Its performance really impressed me when I was in Les Deux Alps, and since then I’ve used its low light capabilities to get some amazing shots at Lumiere London as well as some shots I’ve shared via my profile from Paris. Having a phone that has such amazing features ready to shoot in my pocket makes my life a lot easier.
What are the benefits are of using a smartphone for photography?
Compared to the conventional DSLRs, smartphones are convenient to carry and very easy to use – meaning photography on the go has never been easier. These features mean I can capture great moments, edit them and share them on social media within minutes.
Xperia Z5 also has some really cool preset modes which I use all the time, but then there are the days when I want to really control the scene I’m capturing which makes Z5’s manual setting perfect.
How has Xperia Z5 changed how you take photos?
Having such a great camera sitting in my pocket has allowed me to become more spontaneous with what I shoot – I’m guaranteed to not miss a moment again.
What’s your favourite photo that you’ve taken recently?
Recently using my Xperia Z5 it’s got to be the Sunrise in Paris.
