Nobunari “Nobu” Tanaka (@xx22ww24) fell in love with photography after receiving a set of postcards for his 16th birthday. “The more I saw them, the more I felt a sense of warmth grow inside me,” says the 27-year-old from Osaka, Japan, who was born deaf and has relied on all his other senses to experience the world’s vibrancy. “That’s what inspired me to start taking photos, to be able to produce visuals like those postcards.” Nobu enjoys having visual conversations with people, regardless of their physical distance. “In my everyday life, I am not able to hear people speak and laugh or even the wind blow,” Nobu, who works for an event-planning company, explains. “As I take photos, I try to imagine what people hear when they see my work.”
