Jazmine Alcon (@pettyofcolor) may not be able to vote in this year’s US election, but she’s not staying out of the conversation. “Making the world a better place has no age limit,” says the 17-year-old student who lives in New Jersey. “There should not be a stigma around young people advocating for what they believe in.” She’s one of the founders of Risen Zine (@risenzine), a platform for teenagers around the world to express their opinions on current events, politics and societal issues “without being invalidated for their youth,” Jazmine says. She recognizes this election will have a huge impact on her generation’s future, even though they’re not voting on the issues: “Learning is not subject to a single age group. Wisdom is not subject to a single age group. Influence is not subject to a single age group. Listen to the kids. They might teach you a thing or two.”
