Christmas is almost upon us and that can only mean one thing: gift shopping (and the inevitable sinking feeling in your stomach when you realise you have no good ideas for what you get your family and friends).
I love giving people gifts, but I hate shopping which is why I do 99.9% of my Xmas shopping via Amazon. I also SUCK at dedicating time to research gifts to buy my family and loved ones. I get it done… but it often takes ages.
This year I did things differently. I started early, during Black Friday, and made sure I had 90% of my shopping done. I also saved quite a bit of money in the process, potentially. I’m nearly done, but I do think I have now found the ultimate Christmas gift (for tech, anyway).
Enter, Amazon Dot
Amazon’s Dot is cheap, useful, easy to use, and will deliver year-round functionality. The device itself is now retailing for around £34.99 in the UK (and something like $30 in the US). I have one myself and I do really, really love this little puck device.
I use mine most days to plan my calendar, get quick answers to questions, switch lights off and on in my house, and order the occasional Uber. Basically, the Dot is my go-to digital assistant.
And for under £40, it’s an absolute bargain – even more so when you factor in just how much you can spend during the holiday season.
Amazon Dot – Unprecedented Value For Money
I’ve tried, but I cannot honestly think of something that offers the same level of value for money as the Amazon Dot. It does TONS of stuff, is super-useful, and it will deliver help throughout the year. And it costs just 34 quid.
Sure, an iPad Pro would be better. Or the iPhone X. But I am not a millionaire, so those types of gifts are basically out. For me, a Xmas gift should be fun, useful, cost-effective, and make itself useful all year round.
In this respect, the Amazon Dot – or the Echo, or Google Home Mini – ticks all the boxes. And because it is technically an AI device, it’s always learning new skills that can be leveraged by the user. In this context, my dad.
Amazon Dot will integrate with your home as well, so if you want to eventually invest in things like smart lightbulbs or a Nest thermostat, Amazon Dot has got you covered – all of these will work with it and this means you can talk to your house.
Moral of the story? If you’re struggling to find a gift for someone, stop looking right now, and get them an Amazon Dot.
