Android 4.2.2 update rolling out to Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10

Google Nexus devices are now receiving the Android 4.2.2 update over-the-air, including the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10

Multiple users are reporting that the 4.2.2 Jelly Bean build of Android is now rolling out to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and both the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 tablets.

Reports indicate users on Twitter, Google + and Reddit are all updating to the new build, although Google hasn’t released any information through official channels.

The update, labelled JDQ39, clocks in at 47.6MB and is arriving over-the-air. Allegedly, the update goes some way to fixing a bug with Bluetooth audio streaming, but it appears this hasn’t been stamped out completely.

Other than this there isn’t a lot of information at present, but the update screen claims general ‘performance and stability’ improvements while some reports indicate gesture typing (Swype style) and the addition of multiple user account capability (for phones presumably, as this already exists for tablets as of 4.2).

It’s not expected the 4.2.2 build will add a huge amount of new stuff though, because reportedly Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie (KLP) is just around the corner with a launch predicted for the Google I/O even on May 15.

Primarily 4.2.2 will be bugfixes and stability improvements, although it seems at this early stage no-one’s checked if the Google Now widget, which leaked recently, is also a new addition.

The features of Key Lime Pie remain an absolute mystery, but we expect it to follow previous major updates by introducing a small handful of very significant features or changes which substantially alter the experience for the better.

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) introduced better performance and stability, on-screen touch controls (allowing the removal of solid phone keys), a new menu layout, launcher customisation, a general UI face-lift and some fantastic multitasking.

Jelly Bean 4.1 added yet more speed and stability improvements as well as the Butter UI for better latency and screen responsiveness, expandable notifications, the Google Now app and Google Chrome as the default browser.

Jelly Bean 4.2 brought Photosphere capture, enhanced gesture controls and a set of quick settings in an additional drop-down bar .
