Huawei has announced the Ascend P2 at Mobile World Congress 2013 with a release date of Q2 and price of £345
Huawei has announced the Huawei Ascend P2 at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, with a slim 8mm chassis, 4.7-inch screen and 1.5GHz processor.
The Huawei Ascend P2 is a follow up to the Huawei Ascend D2 phablet and features Huawei's Emotion UI, just like its predecessor announced at CES in January.
The screen measures 4.7-inches, with 720p resolution almost edge-to-edge glass and with a 13-megapixel camera with HDR photo and video functionality on the back, it looks like a smart piece of kit.
As you'd expect, there's a 1.3-megapixel camera on the front of the device for video calling and storage options are available in one flavor - 16GB.
Huawei's newest addition to the Ascend range is available in a glossy black or white, but it's otherwise pretty plain in design.
Running on a 1.5GHz processor, the Huawei Ascend P2 should be fast. According to the LTE Cat4 benchmarks shown at the launch event, the Huawei Ascend P2 reaches 150Mbps compared to the iPhone 5 and Galaxy S3 at 100Mbps on LTE.
Huawei is marketing the Huawei Ascend P2 as its first serious smartphone, shifting from ODM to OEM and feature phone to smartphone, from low end to high end.
Huawei's philosophy fits into a structure, with each device so called according to its features. D represents the top technology, P for fashion, G for value and Y for affordability.
Therefore, the Ascend P2 fits into the fashion range, although we're not sure whether it's particularly fashionable.
Although Huawei said the P2 will be available from Q2 with a price tag of £345, the company couldn't give us a precise release date for the Huawei Ascend P2 yet for the UK.
We hope it'll come to some carriers after Huawei spoke about the importance of becoming a consumer brand rather than a business one. Huawei also announced a partnership with Orange in Europe at the event.
