Nokia says the leaked picture of its supposed Windows tablet shows nothing it has in development
Nokia has issued a statement saying that an image of a Windows tablet seen at its Pakistan Lumia 620 launch does not show a device currently under development.
The image, which was seen on a presentation display during the launch, showed a phone, tablet and all-in-one desktop PC in a familiar Microsoft format: each device was a black silhouette with the colourful Windows Live Tile interface showing up brightly against it. None of the devices bore any particular branding.
The internet erupted with reports that this was Nokia’s rumoured Windows tablet said to be in development. While Nokia hasn’t outright denied that a Windows tablet is in the works, it has issued a statement on the supposed leak.
MyNokiaBlog spoke to the company, which said: ‘That’s not a leak. That is a picture that simply shows WP UI alongside Win8 Tablet UI alongside Xbox UI. They are not Nokia specific products.’
We figured as much.
The whole black silhouette device thing is a fairly standard Microsoft (and by extension its close partner) thing to showcase the UI with generic device shapes as a canvas. In this case it was used to show how Nokia’s phones might link-up with Windows tablets and PCs from other manufacturers.
But, there was no denial about a Windows tablet in development. Which is kind of a good thing.
Stephen Elop, Nokia's CEO, has said before the company is very interested in the idea and that Windows 8 or Windows RT are the obvious first ports of call for what operating system to use. The cross-compatibility with Nokia Lumia phones and the company’s close working relationship with Microsoft being a couple of driving factors.
Earlier in the year, leaks emerged which suggested that not only is Nokia working on another PureView camera Lumia smartphone but a Windows RT tablet as well.
Will we see something before the end of 2013?
