iPhone 5S to feature Beats music streaming service?

Tim Cook has been in conversations with Beats CEO Jimmy Lovine about a music streaming service like Spotify

Apple CEO Tim Cook and Beats CEO Jimmy Lovine have reportedly had talks around bringing a Spotify-like music streaming service to iTunes and iDevices - arriving in time for the iPhone 5S launch.

The two bigwigs, according to Reuters, were chatting about adding a subscription music service to iTunes, which we can only assume will be rolled out across iPods, iPhones and iPads.

The idea of a music streaming service to go head to head with Spotify has been around for quite a while and although a release date of late 2013 has been thrown around, nothing has been set in stone.

Reuters said the leak was revealed by three people 'familiar with the situation'.

Project Daisy is the codename for Beats' music streaming service announced in January, with Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor spearheading the service as Creative Director.

Ian Rogers will be overseeing the 'direction, vision and strategy' for Project Daisy.

The service should feature direct music streaming and offline playback, just like Spotify and Google Music.

The service being rolled out though and gaining popularity does of course rely on music licensing which can be a very grey area and will probably make such a service fragmented across global territories.

Beats has also announced it has managed to raise $60 million (£45 million) to launch Project Daisy as a spin off company, giving the service even more clout before it launches.

If Apple were to collaborate with the massive music firm, responsible for products such as Dr Dre Beats headphones, where will this leave HTC who currently have a deal with the company?

Beats audio technology is included in flagship HTC devices such as the HTC One to enhance the sound experience.

It's yet another example of Apple attempting to dominate all aspects of mobile technology.
