Leaked renders of the Samsung Galaxy S4 are fakes
That Samsung Galaxy S4 rendering which leaked this week is apparently not official Samsung material and was, allegedly, mocked-up for an Expansys product page.
But, according to UberGizmo, it appears this little faux pas wasn’t exactly Expansys’ fault. The report says that according to posts from Expansys’ Twitter account the mock-up was made for a preliminary Galaxy S4 product page, which doesn't make any claims to show the finished product as it also bears the disclaimer:
‘Careful: the information here is not official and is subject to change after the official release of the device.’
Now, you may remember the source for the leak was well-known Twitter faucet @evleaks, well, according to further posts on Expansys’ Twitter page evleaks took the image without permission and added its own watermark before publishing it as the real deal.
The report notes that evleaks has since deleted the original Galaxy S4 leak posts, which could lend some authenticity to Expansys’ claim. However, links to comments on the matter made from an Expansys Twitter account no longer lead anywhere.
Know Your Mobile spoke to Exspansys group marketing manager Lewis Davies, who suggested the comments came from the company's French branch. A look on the ExpansysFR Twitter page shows posts such as this:
'Please note that the real source is http://www.expansys.com/samsung-galaxy-S4#tabs1-specs … (Evleak just picked up our image and contents)'
Commenting on the confusion, Davies said the page was simply intended to show what the Galaxy S4 might look like.
'The content was created by our French office to show an overview of what the Galaxy S4 might be like,' he said.
Regarding evleaks distributing the renders, he added: 'Perhaps they thought we had the info directly from Samsung.'
Rumours suggest the Samsung Galaxy S4 will still have a plastic design like its predecessor, but different sources imply it may either keep the curved corners and a similar body shape (as with the Expansys rendering). Meanwhile, other sources, namely a couple of apparently legit leaked photos, show something a bit more angular.
Earlier rumours claimed Samsung would undergo a re-branding with the Galaxy S4 and certainly the company’s official promotional video suggests the use of numerals (Galaxy SIV) is being dropped in favour of normal numbers.
Expansys is planning to get stock of the Galaxy S4 as soon as it becomes available. You can sign up on the product page to be notified when pre-orders go live.
