Online renderings show what the iPhone 6 could look like
Rumours continue to circulate about Apple’s forthcoming smartphone product line-up and whether we’ll see a larger premium iPhone or a plastic-build budget one, or both. But, in the meantime, industrious concept artists are turning out renders to give us a glimpse of what the future might hold.
AppleInsider.ru has produced a very convincing set of renders, including an extensive Apple-style video, complete with integrated live-action footage of someone handling the device.
This shows a fairly conservative approach to how the iPhone 6 could change because although it’s expanded to a larger 4.2-inch display the design language is exactly the same as the iPhone 5 with its metal unibody, albeit slightly thinner and somehow even lighter at a mere 104g.
That said, noteworthy changes include an extremely narrow bezel, stereo speakers on the rear and a selection of colour options outside the usual black and white, including grey, blue, red, yellow, orange and purple.
This last point does sit with current rumours from some circles, though authenticity is yet to be verified.
A bit more adventurous (and, if we’re honest, much more unlikey) is a design posted on Concept Phones by Deepak Ahuja, showing a 4.8-inch model with a very tall, narrow shape featuring curved edges and what looks like a curved back panel.
While the 4.2-inch model would retain 1136x640 pixel resolution this larger version would apparently have a 1280x720 pixel resolution instead.
Other proposed specs include a 1.6GHz processor, 2GB of RAM, a triple core PowerVR graphics processor and a 12-megapixel camera with LED flash.
Current rumours suggest the iPhone 5S could arrive in August, though opinion remains divided on whether we’ll see a repeat of the ‘S’ branding or if Apple will go straight to the iPhone 6.
If there are two premium models it’s not expected we’ll see an iPhone 6 until 2014.
A recent report from Reuters indicates Apple CEO Tim Cook has been in talks with Beats Audio CEO Jimmy Lovine, with the subject of conversation allegedly being co-operation on a music streaming service.
If true, it’s possible we could see such a service launch alongside the iPhone 6 if it does indeed land next year.
