We are getting another Huawei device pretty soon, because they have just announced new model coming on May 4th. Apparently it’s another watered version of the successul P9, but instead of originally planned Huawei P9 Youth edition it should be named Huawei G9.

@thecuadro’s Glamorous Collages Star Guests from Past White House Correspondents’ Dinners

To see more of Pablo’s life and art, follow @thecuadro on Instagram.

April 30 is the last White House Correspondents’ Dinner for this presidency, and to mark the occasion, the collage artist Pablo Thecuadro (@thecuadro) created new works featuring classic images from past dinners, starring icons like Carolyn Bessette Kennedy and Sylvester Stallone. “I begin when I see pictures that I love, and I start thinking how I could transform them,” says the artist who lives in Madrid. “I finish when I’ve tried every combination and chosen the one I like the most.” Pablo, who worked with W Magazine (@wmag) on this series, says that of the three images, the one from the ‘70s is his favorite. “I love the photographs from that decade,” he says. “With these images, I wanted to express something joyful and glamorous, a party that you would want to go to.”

Weekend Hashtag Project: #WHPdaydream

Weekend Hashtag Project is a series featuring designated themes and hashtags chosen by Instagram’s Community Team. For a chance to be featured on the Instagram blog, follow @instagram and look for a post every week announcing the latest project.

The goal this weekend is to make surreal photos and videos inspired by your dreams. Here’s how to get started:

  • Stage a reality- or gravity-defying moment, like having friends toss objects into the air to appear as if they’re magically floating.
  • Create a psychedelic dreamscape by shooting through tinted materials or turning your camera upside down or sideways for a distorted perspective.
  • If shooting video, consider a plot twist that transforms an ordinary situation into a fantasy.

PROJECT RULES: Please add the #WHPdaydream hashtag only to photos and videos taken over this weekend and only submit your own visuals to the project. If you include music in your video submissions, please only use music to which you own the rights. Any tagged photo or video taken over the weekend is eligible to be featured next week.

BlackBerry, Chen To Present At Leading Think Tank Conference Next Week

“Where others see problems, we seek solutions.”

milken institute logoThis is the first phrase I read when I began exploring the program for the coming Milken Institute Global Conference, and it truly sums up this incredible gathering of intelligent minds – over 700 speakers tackling a vast array of topics and issues facing our world today – that convenes in Los Angeles from May 1-4.

How will economic growth in Asia over the next decade affect global markets? Are we on the edge of an era of nuclear fusion? Can we strengthen the global supply chain in order to protect food distribution? How can the private market for mortgage credit be properly restarted? These are only a few of the questions being asked, and answered, in the 170+ sessions next week.

BlackBerry is proud to sponsor and be a part of this year’s conference, where Executive Chairman and CEO John Chen will be speaking on a panel to discuss Digital Darwinism: How Companies Can Survive and Thrive in the Digital Age. The panel will be streamed live on Monday May 2nd at 1:45 PM ET, so be sure to tune in. We’ll also be unveiling live demonstrations of the refreshed BlackBerry enterprise software portfolio, leading the charge on leveraging mobile technology to achieve business outcomes in all markets through secure productivity and collaboration.

(Check out what BlackBerry and Chen spoke about at last year’s conference.)

I couldn’t be more excited to watch, listen, learn, and share the highlights with you over the next week. Stay tuned here on the BlackBerry Blogs and follow @BlackBerry4Biz to get live updates from Chen’s panel and the rest of the conference.

Immortalized: A Chat with Drake About ‘Views,’ Memes and the CN Tower

To see more from Drake, check out @champagnepapi on Instagram. For more music stories, head to @music.

It’s past midnight in the 6 and Drake, the city’s self-appointed king, is holding court in the studio. In two days, his fourth album, Views, will be released, and with it all of the admiration, radio play and addictive memes that typically follow a Drake project.

The cycle has already started. The 29-year-old pop star unveiled his new record cover earlier in the week, kicking off a nonstop round of press and praise.

“I wanted to forever immortalize the city in the cover,” says Drake, about the photo by Caitlin Cronenberg (@caitcronenberg), which features our hero sitting on top of Toronto’s famed CN Tower, his legs dangling over the edge. “There was another picture of me on a balcony but that could be anywhere. I could be in Chicago. I could be in New York. Just to see that building on the cover of this album let’s me know in my heart that I did the right thing.”

Almost two years in the making, Views is as much a love letter to Drake’s hometown as it is an indicator of his current dominance of the hip-hop and music world writ large. (“The album is based around the climate shift in Toronto,” he says. “Our summers don’t last that long so we pack as much as we can in, and I’ve tried to get that across with this particular project.”) Since first announcing the record back in 2014, @champagnepapi has been busy, dropping two buzzworthy mixtapes — the chart-dominating “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late,” and his spectacularly woozy collaboration with Future, “What a Time to Be Alive” — as well as the single “Hotline Bling” and its neon-hued music video. Then there were the memes …. on memes on memes on memes, all based off the everlasting viral appeal of his Drakeness. He is well aware of the effort fans go to produce them.

“I have become the most memed person aside from the Michael Jordan crying face,” says Drake. “I love that I’m the guy that doesn’t take himself too seriously. I like laughing even if it’s at my expense. It doesn’t feel like it’s necessarily malicious or hurtful stuff. I’m conscious of it. Even with the ‘If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late’ cover, when everyone took the font — that’s just our culture right now. I really enjoy it more than watching television. It brings joy to my life, and I hope it brings joy to other people’s lives too.”

Drake is quick to clarify that he and his OVO crew don’t necessarily sit around brainstorming what image or video has the potential to go super viral. They, as he explains, “just do it,” picking whatever visual speaks most directly to him. And that approach shows up, both on his Instagram feed (“It’s an amazing series of footprints to look back on. It’s like a yearbook. I make use of it in a very personal way, I try not to go heavy promotional.”) and in the love he shows his city and fans. Drake on the CN Tower spoofs may be hilarious, but, as he explains, without the message and heart behind the original picture, they don’t have nearly the same impact.

“As a kid who was born here and grew up here, there’s no bigger feat than sitting on top of the CN Tower,” says Drake (who, for what it’s worth, was actually Photoshopped sitting on top of the tower). “I will forever see that image and be like, yeah, that was one of my albums,” adding, “If you enjoy my music, this will hopefully be in the top two or three albums that I have ever put out.”

Calling all Android fans, it’s time to feast your eyes on our latest news

There’s always a lot going on in the worlds of Android and Sony, so we’ve put together the latest top stories to keep you up to speed. We’ve got a smartphone project designed to save lives,  insight into Android app development and an exciting Twitter release.

It’s withoutocpcvqim2t5rl4oockpj a doubt that food photography has dramatically increased in popularity in recent years, with many now unable to resist the temptation to snap away the moment their food arrives in a restaurant. Just one foodie fanatic is Hugh Johnson, a renowned photographer who has taken photographs for celebrity chefs including Yotam Ottolenghi and Heston Blumenthal. Just this week he released a series of stunning food photography images capturing the exquisite, mouth-watering detail of the dinner table close up – all taken on Sony’s full frame, palm-sized α7R II. Luckily for us, Hugh also shared his guide to capturing the essence of a delicious plate in a photograph, following a successful series of shots he took on his

From making this simple to shooting food at the widest aperture possible, here’s everything you need to know!

Have you ever dreamed of developing your own Android app? Twitter surprised many of its users this week with the release of a Mobile Playbook designed to help new developers. The playbook is a compilation of blog posts outlining Twitter’s experience in the sector, designed to give new app developers some great advice to follow. The series walks you through everything from prototyping and design, to analytics – as well as taking a look at topics including using APIs and monetization.

So developing your own Android app may not be as hard as you think, and to help with this we found a couple of additional resources that could help you on your way.

Android’s very own website is, unsurprisingly, the most up-to-date source you can access – and there’s a whole range of exercises on app development to get your knowledge up to scratch.

Another useful resource is Envatotuts+ – a site based around written tutorials. There’s a huge selection of courses that range from general overviews, to more specific tasks like handling intents and acquiring device sensor data.

If you manage to create your very own app, make sure you share it with us. You may even get featured as our latest ‘App of the Month’.

An interesting piece of news came to light this week, as Android Authority reported on a brand new ‘life saving’ project that will suit all the smartphone fanatics out there. Ausburg, a city in Germany, revealed that it has begun to embed traffic lights in the pavements, so smartphone users never have to take their eyes away from their phone.

According to a city spokesperson, the project “creates a whole new level of attention” however others have suggested that it in fact serves as an “unnecessary crutch for bad habits”, with city leaders citing a recent European study that found nearly 20 percent of pedestrians are distracted by their smartphones.

Whilst it’s unclear whether or not the project will work, we’d love to get your thoughts on this new traffic-light concepteam-android-t-shirtt. Remember, this project is just in Germany, so have your eyes on the roads at all times!

Finally, some exciting news now for the super Android fans out there. If you want to show your Android support beyond simply using a phone or tablet, you can now get your hands on your very own Android t-shirt via Android Central!  The garments feature the writing ‘Team Android’, with the classic bugdroid logo below. They’re available for a limited time only, so put in your order now!

Unfortunately that’s all we have time for this week. Have a top weekend and make sure you catch us on Twitter.

Exploring Emotions Onstage with Ballet Dancer @kuraevaolga

This post is celebrating International Dance Day and kicks off our monthlong series, #whyImove. Throughout May, we’ll be sharing stories of dancers from all over the globe. To see more of Olga’s art and life, follow @kuraevaolga on Instagram.

(This interview was conducted in Russian.)

“My dance is neither a philosophy nor a job; it is the way I am feeling emotionally. This is #whyImove,” Moscow-based dancer Olga Kuraeva (@kuraevaolga) says. “I am not an actress. If I am not going through a certain emotion, I won’t be able to express it through dance. It doesn’t matter if I dance well or not — the most important thing is that I am real. The Bolshoi Ballet Academy is my childhood, my youth and my present, but I don’t have ballet idols. I am really inspired by people who do extreme sports. I think they are brave and emotionally very strong. The stage never gives you a second chance, so I prefer photos and videos. The camera is able to capture real and deep emotions. I can see myself developing in that direction in the future.”
