Since most manufacturers have removed the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack, that has left many of us to rely on dongles. The problem with this is that dongles get lost pretty easily and it’s not like you can just walk in to Best Buy and get a new one.
The great thing about making the move to USB-C is that this technology can serve multiple purposes. In addition to charging your devices, companies can also release USB-C headphones, removing the need for dongles.
Unfortunatley, the market for these headphones has been pretty bare, but Moshi is stepping things up. At CES 2019, the company announced two new USB-C headphones with the Mythro C and Avanti C.
Moshi Mythro C
The Mythro C is priced at just $50 and sports a “lightweight aluminum housing” with the in-ear earbuds. Obviously this is great so that the headphones don’t make your ears tired after an extended listening period.
Also included is an integrated DAC, a microphone, in-line controls, and Google Assistant compatibility. For those who care about color options, the Mythro C comes in either Gunmetal Grey or Jet Silver.
You can purchase these today from Moshi’s website for just $50. While this may seem steep, it can end up being worth it if you tend to lose your dongles on a regular basis.
Moshi Avanti C
Moshi didn’t stop there as the company announced a new set of on-ear headphones. The Avanti C sport an adjustable stainless steel headband along with “vegan leather ear cups”.
Both of these headphones are equipped with a built in DAC, along with a Class G amplifier. This aims to provide a better listening experience, regardless of which device you are connected to.
As for pricing of the Avanti C, Moshi states that these will be priced at $200. Unlike the Mythro C, you’ll have to wait until February before being able to jump on the USB-C train.
Conclusion
While Android users are still clamoring for a direct AirPods competitor, these new USB-C headphones should help satisfy some folks. Especially those who really don’t mind the wires and want a good listening experience today.
