How to Use the Internet to Never Leave Your House Again

Thanks to the Internet, activities like “going outside” or “being a productive member of the community” are becoming increasingly optional parts of daily life. When your inner hermit feels like putting on his vampire cape, simple tricks like ordering a pizza or calling in some Chinese are old news, and only make up a small part of a much broader network of delivery services which will keep you fed, bathed, and entertained from the comfort of your sweatpants.

Keeping your personal information private and safe—and putting you in control

We've all been there at some point or another…
You just lost your phone and want to wipe your personal information.
You attend an event, and you want to share your photos with some people (but not everyone).
You hesitate as you download another app that's asking for a lot of information.

Everyday, we make choices that affect our privacy and security online. Most people, however, don’t feel they have the right level of control to make these important decisions. According to a recent Pew study, 93 percent of people think it’s important to control access to their personal information, and 90 percent care about the type of information that’s collected about them. But only 9 percent feel they have “a lot” of control over it. We want to change that.

Google builds simple, powerful privacy and security tools that keep your information safe and put you in control of it. At Google I/O, we announced that people will have more control over the information they provide to mobile apps in the M release, the next version of Android. Today, we’re rolling out two significant improvements to our privacy and security tools: a new hub for managing your Google settings called My Account, and a new site that answers important questions about privacy and security on Google.

Privacy and security controls, all in one place
Privacy and security are two sides of the same coin: if your information isn’t secure, it certainly can’t be private. My Account gives you quick access to the settings and tools that help you safeguard your data, protect your privacy, and decide what information is used to make Google services work better for you. It also provides more context to help you understand your options and make the right choices for you.
Here are some of the things you can do with My Account:

  • Take the Privacy Checkup and Security Checkup, our simple, step-by-step guides through your most important privacy and security settings.
  • Manage the information that can be used from Search, Maps, YouTube and other products to enhance your experience on Google. For example, you can turn on and off settings such as Web and App Activity, which gets you more relevant, faster search results, or Location History, which enables Google Maps and Now to give you tips for a faster commute back home.
  • Use the Ads Settings tool to control ads based on your interests and the searches you’ve done.
  • Control which apps and sites are connected to your account.
We built My Account to be a resource for everyone, even if you don't have a Google Account. Check out your controls at myaccount.google.com.

Answering your questions about privacy and security
We listen to feedback from people around the world to better understand their concerns about privacy and security. In addition to My Account, we want to help people find answers to common questions on these topics, such as: "What data does Google collect? What does Google do with the data it collects? What tools do I have to control my Google experience?"

Our new site, privacy.google.com, candidly answers these questions, and more. We also explain how we show relevant ads without selling your personal information, how encryption and spam filtering help keep your data safe, and how your information helps customize your experience on Google. Visit this site often to learn about new tools, features, and information that can help you make the choices that are right for you.
When you trust your personal information with us, you should expect powerful controls that keep it safe and private as well as useful answers to your questions. Today’s launches are just the latest in our ongoing efforts to protect you and your information on Google. There’s much more to come, and we look forward to your feedback.

NVIDIA Brings VR to Taiwan

Our new flagship GeForce GTX 980 Ti GPU wasn’t the only thing we brought to Computex this week. We also brought our GeForce VR Experience, so Taiwan gamers can come enjoy virtual reality for the first time.

VR changes the way you play and experience games by putting you in the game.  When you’re in VR, you’re directly in the action with a full 3D world all around you. Move your head and the view changes. Move your physical body and your virtual body moves with it. You have to experience this to grok it.

The Experience features Oculus’ latest prototype VR headset, Crescent Bay.  Crescent Bay offers new display technology, 360° head tracking, expanded positional tracking volume, dramatically improved weight and ergonomics, and high-quality integrated audio compared to their current DK2 headset.

Combined with the incredible performance of GeForce GTX 980 Ti GPUs, gamers will enjoy the state of the art in virtual reality, including demos and games such as Epic Games’ Showdown, CCP Games’ EVE: Valkyrie, and more.

Gamers will also get hands on with the latest GeForce technology, including new 4K G-SYNC displays, DirectX 12 demos, the world’s first G-SYNC notebooks, and NVIDIA’s just released SHIELD Android TV.

The GeForce VR Experience is open to the public from June 2 to 4, from 9am to 9pm UTC at the Grand Hyatt Hotel Taipei, 3rd Floor Ballroom.

Come early. Space is limited.

Introducing GeForce GTX 980 Ti — Our New Flagship Gaming GPU Has Arrived

G-SYNC – the Ultimate Gaming Display – Reaches Notebooks, New Monitors

GameWorks VR Will Blaze Trail for Virtual Reality

Virtual reality is among the most compelling advances in next-generation gaming, providing full immersion in a virtual world. But delivering a great VR experience requires serious computing power.

That’s why we’re announcing the GeForce GTX 980 Ti — our new flagship GPU. Along with it, we’re announcing a new software development kit, GameWorks VR, to help VR headset and game developers build incredible experiences on GeForce GPUs.

This kind of technology is needed now more than ever.

In May, Oculus recommended that gamers run a GeForce GTX 970 or higher GPU for the optimal experience with the upcoming Rift VR headset. It’s no easy feat to drive stereo gaming on a high-resolution 2160×1200 display at 90Hz, with near-zero tolerance for latency or stutter.

To deliver that, GameWorks VR combines features we announced back at GDC 2015 under the banner of VR Direct with new and enhanced capabilities.

GameWorks VR includes:

  • NVIDIA Multi-Res Shading (MRS) — An innovative new rendering technique for VR. With NVIDIA MRS, each part of an image is rendered at a resolution that better matches the pixel density of the final displayed VR image. This technology uses the multi-projection architecture of the GeForce GTX 980 Ti GPU to render multiple viewports in a single pass. The result: substantial performance improvements for VR games.
  • VR SLI — Provides increased performance for VR apps. Multiple GPUs can be assigned a specific eye to dramatically accelerate stereo rendering. With the GPU affinity application programming interface, VR SLI allows scaling for PCs with two or more GPUs.
  • Context Priority — Enables control over GPU scheduling to support advanced VR features such as asynchronous time warp. This cuts latency and quickly adjusts images as gamers move their heads, without the need to re-render a new frame.
  • Direct Mode — Delivers plug-and-play compatibility for VR headsets. With Direct Mode, the NVIDIA graphics driver recognizes the headset as a VR display rather than a standard desktop monitor, providing a more seamless user experience.
  • Front Buffer Rendering — Lets the GPU to render directly to the front buffer to reduce latency.

An alpha version of the GameWorks VR SDK is already in the hands of – and receiving positive feedback from — VR industry leaders such as CCP Games, Epic Games, HTC, Oculus, and Valve.  If you’re a VR developer interested in receiving the SDK, check out our GameWorks VR developer page.

VR is coming. If you have seen any of the stunning demos like Thief in the Shadows, Back to Dinosaur Island, EVE: Valkyrie or the HTC Vive demos, you know this is going to be a wild ride. Happy gaming.
