BlackBerry Z10 specs revealed

The spec sheet for the newly launched BlackBerry Z10 has been released

BlackBerry, formerly known as RIM, has released a full spec sheet for the new BlackBerry Z10 smartphone.

It features a 4.2-inch LCD multitouch display with a 1280x768 pixel resolution at 356 pixels-per-inch. The processor is a dual-core Qulacomm S4 Snapdragon MSM8960 chip clocked at 1.5GHz with 2GB of RAM.

While the battery milliamp hours (mAh) rating hasn’t been revealed, BlackBerry claims it’ll last for up to 11 hours of talk time on 3G or around 408 hours on standby. Audio playback is said to be 50 hours while video is pegged at 10 hours.

The rear-facing primary camera is rated at 8-megapixels and records HD video at 1080p while a 2-megapixel front-facer can record HD video and calls at 720p.

Connectivity includes HDMI, a 3.5mm audio jack, microUSB, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi and 4G Mobile Hotspot.

There are solid power/screen lock and volume rocker keys but actual navigation controls are on-screen and part of the BlackBerry 10 UI – the front of the device is buttonless. The rear panel has a textured grip finish.

‘Today sees a re-invented BlackBerry launching an entirely new mobile experience,’ said Thorsten Heins, President and CEO of BlackBerry.

‘We are thrilled to be introducing BlackBerry 10 on the new BlackBerry Z10 and BlackBerry Q10 smartphones, to deliver a faster, smarter experience that continuously adapts to your needs. Every feature, every gesture, and every detail in BlackBerry 10 is designed to keep you moving.’

The BlackBerry Z10 is due to go on sale tomorrow (January 31) and will be carried by all major UK networks, including EE (Orange and T-Mobile), Vodafone, O2, Three, Carphone Warehouse and Phones4U.

It will start from £36 per month on contract but there are no details on SIM-free pricing.

We’ve just got our own BlackBerry Z10 in the office, Rich is currently downstairs filming an unboxing video and we’re going to have plenty of first-look and hands-on coverage within the next few days.

Expect a full review after we’ve had enough time with the handset in the coming weeks.
